A real flame, so candle rules apply

Set it on a hard, heat-proof surface with nothing above it, and put the candle out when you leave the room. For scent that runs while you are elsewhere, the diffusers are electric.

Oil warmer FAQ

Safety answers name their sources: National Candle Association, ASPCA Animal Poison Control, Pet Poison Helpline, Johns Hopkins Medicine.

GuideOil warmer or diffuser: flame or switchRead it →
Is a tealight included?

No. It takes a standard tealight, which burns about four hours.

Oil or wax melts?

Both, but not together. Oil goes on top of water in the dish; a wax melt goes into the dry dish.

Can I leave it burning?

No. It is a candle under a dish, so candle rules apply: never unattended, never while you sleep, on a flat heat-proof surface with nothing above it. Source: National Candle Association.

Does it get hot?

The dish does; that is how it works. Let it cool before you move it, and keep it on a hard surface, never on cloth.

Is it safe around cats and dogs?

Two risks here: the oil and the open flame. Cats cannot break down many oils, lavender, tea tree and citrus included. Put it where an animal cannot reach it. Sources: ASPCA Animal Poison Control, Pet Poison Helpline.

Around babies or during pregnancy?

Not around infants under six months. During pregnancy, ask your doctor. Source: Johns Hopkins Medicine.

How do I clean the dish?

Let it cool, wipe out the oil or wax with a paper towel, then wash it in warm soapy water.
